Confirmation for St. Boniface Parish was held on Wednesday evening April 26th at 7 p.m. 22 students received this sacrament this year. The Confirmand wore their best clothes, in former years they wore specific gowns. St. Boniface pastor, Father Peter Meyer was the Extraordinary Minister of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
At the end of each pew was the outline of a dove with the confirmandi's name on it and this was the designated seat for each of the families. The students were asked to sit with their sponsor at the end of their pew.
Cayleigh McQuinn & Hannah Maric welcomed the many parents and friends to this special occasion. Father Peter said the opening prayer and Maria Harris did the Reading. During the Homily Father questioned the students on the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit -wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord and what it meant to them. All candidates were asked to stand and they renewed their Baptismal Promises.
The Confirmandi and sponsors were then all asked to come to the altar with the sponsor standing behind the student. Each candidate chooses a name of a Christian saint which would provide them a role model for living the Christian life and would place them under the patronage of that saint. This saint would give them special inspiration or can intercede for them in special matters.
The sponsor lays their hand on the candidate shoulder while Father asks what name of the saint they had chosen. He anoints each student with the sign of the cross on their forehead with Holy Oils on a cotton swab while saying "Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit."
The petitions were given by Michael Milloy. Following the Lord's Prayer and the Concluding Prayer the thank you's were given by Cayleigh McQuinn & Hannah Maric.
Thanks to Sacramental Preparation Leaders, Lisa Hodgkinson, Angela McLean and Father Peter Meyer. Thank you was also extended to organist Theresa Bauer and choir for their singing through out the Service.
