Wellesley will hear the rumble of thunder every Thursday this summer – more so when the skies are clear – as the Loft Eatery launches a bike night in the village.
“On Thursday nights we’re just showing off bikes,” said Faith Loft, who owns the restaurant with her husband.
“For all bike enthusiasts, they come in, show off their bikes and just enjoy food; they just come in and enjoy a beverage and good food and camaraderie.”
The weekly gathering got under way unofficially after last week’s bike fest and roller derby at the Wellesley arena. Loft, who helped run the bar at that event, handed out posters to enthusiasts there and received a positive response.
“They were all really thrilled, and they came out; a lot of them came here after the bike fest happened.
“They were really excited about coming back and doing this bike night thing,” she explained, noting that while she doesn’t ride – at least not yet – she and her husband have many friends who are motorcycling enthusiasts. They figured offering the locals and the not-so-locals (some bikers come from as far as Cambridge and Guelph) a nice place to talk shop and admire each other’s bikes, as well as a scenic drive to the venue, would make for a great weeknight event. Maybe especially for those coming from afar.
“It’s just beautiful country in riding all the back roads to be able to get here. A nice country ride, so it’s a good stopping point before they continue on.”
Who knows, maybe Loft will even become a rider herself.
“I’d like to be. Some day I’m hoping to be,” she said, noting that she and her husband are thinking of taking up riding in the future.
