They started out as the Knitting Nightingales.
When a group of Floradale teenage girls came together in 1942 to start a social club in support of the soldiers overseas in the Second World War, they probably had no idea how long their collective connection would last.
Eventually renaming themselves as Club 42, the ladies cultivated relationships that would carry them through their various life milestones, a bond that was sealed in the planting of a maple tree in Floradale Park in 1992 to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
Over the years, the frequency of their meetings began to drop off, and members either lost contact or passed away. However, they continued to come together for significant occasions and made a point to have group Christmas gatherings. There were also occasional road trips, with spouses being welcomed at some events.
