Evan Burgess will become the new mayor of the Township of Woolwich, with two incumbents returning to office along with three new councillors.
Currently a Ward 1 councillor, Burgess won out over Ward 2 Coun. Eric Schwindt and Glenn Fern in the race to replace three-term mayor Sandy Shantz, who decided not to seek re-election.
Burgess garnered 6,019 votes in the October 26 municipal election, while Schwindt received 2,245. Fern, who ran a barely visible campaign, got just 77. Chane Ballantyne, whose name remained on the ballot despite dropping out of the race, still managed 132.
