The word crisis gets thrown around a great deal when you’re talking about housing in Ontario. And it’s true that the issue is a multi-headed hydra that defies easy fixes, one that has been escalating over the years. But when executive director Dan Driedger of Beyond Housing looks back on the past quarter century of tackling this particular problem, he sees a lot of positive progress in the Waterloo Region.
The organization has completed 14 developments in the region, totalling 258 units, with 20 more currently under construction. When Driedger first joined the organization in 2013, there was a fraction of that number.
