The Maryhill Historical Society celebration of Canada Day was very lucky.  The rain held off until mid-afternoon allowing the program to carry on.

MPP Mike Harris, Woolwich Township Ward 3 councillor Murray Martin, Historical Society president Tom Schell and MP Harold Albrecht.

The morning began at 11 a.m. with the raising of the flag by MPP Mike Harris and MP Harold Albrecht helping president Tom Schell.  Both gentlemen along with Murray Martin, Ward Three Woolwich Councillor gave greetings and also commented on our great land of Canada.

To honour Canada’s 150th anniversary a red sugar maple tree was planted by the side of the Edward Halter Home.  A sincerely thank you to Peter Tillich for his expertise.

Maryhill Knights of Columbus barbecuing – Terry Ryan, Doug Zinger, Mark Braun, Steve Kuntz and Gary Embro

Thank you to the Maryhill Knights of Columbus for supplying the barbecued hot dogs, hamburgers, bottled water and juice.  There was also cake and cookies to be enjoyed by all.  Music was enjoyed by Melody Train with several visitors coming forward to sing with them as well.  The Maryhill Volunteer Fire Department and the Ariss-Maryhill Lions Club also had volunteers and displays set up.  Several antique cars were on display and 2 tractors to make the day very enjoyed for all ages groups.

The afternoon consisted of crafts for the children and horse drawn wagon tours of the community at 1 and 2:30 p.m.   People were encouraged to visit the cemetery to see the 36 interesting stones and to tour the Edward Halter Home.
