Two-foot-high snowbanks blocked an Elmira crosswalk, leaving parents furious as they walked their children to school for the first time after the Christmas break.
Crossing guards were forced onto the roadway to help students over Church Street at Killdeer Road after the new sidewalk-clearance contractor again failed to clear a vital walkway.
The snow was so thick on paths to Riverside Public School on Monday morning that some people walked in the street, the latest episode in a problem plaguing the town since late November.
