Woolwich councillors, who collected a total of $69,342 in remuneration in 2008, filed expense claims of $3,754 last year, a report tabled this week shows. That compares to $67,550 and $4,372, respectively, the year prior.

In a housekeeping measure mandated by the province, finance director Richard Petherick filed a statement of payments and expenses that was accepted by council at its Mar. 3 meeting. The Ontario Municipal Act gives municipalities until Mar. 31 to make the details public.

The mayor was paid $23,114 last year, while the four councillors each received $11,557.

In 2008, Coun. Mark Bauman filed expenses of $575; Coun. Murray Martin, $1,201; Coun. Sandy Shantz, $0 and Coun. Ruby Weber, $1,978 As is typically the case, Mayor Bill Strauss filed no expense requests, covering the costs himself.

Petherick’s report also noted the township paid five members of its Committee of Adjustment remuneration totaling $1,960 and expenses that amounted to $1,096.
