Deep in Ontario's woodlots, an invisible, high-pitched symphony plays across the autumn night sky. While human ears can't detect it, a new research project spearheaded by the University of Waterloo is tuning in to track Canada's elusive bat populations.
Kennedy Jamieson, a Graduate Student researcher in Waterloo's Department of Biology, is currently leading a pilot study that she hopes will one day evolve into a permanent, coast-to-coast wildlife monitoring network to aid bat conservation efforts.
Working alongside Dr. Liam McGuire's lab, Jamieson is using state-of-the-art bioacoustics monitoring to better understand bat migration patterns and protect them from modern ecological threats.
