Karole McDonnall of Elmira Bowl helped team Ontario to gold at the Canadian Open five-pin bowling championships in June.

Team Ontario played 43 games in Saskatoon, ultimately beating Alberta 1385 to 1133 in the finals.

McDonnell also claimed silver in the ladies’ singles category. After defeating Alyra Spark of Saskatchewan 304 to 221, McDonnell fell to Karen Armstrong of Manitoba 268 to 212 in the finals.

McDonnell returned to Saskatoon in July for the Masters Bowlers Association nationals along with Bruce Malina, who qualified for the senior team. Both teams finished fourth.
