Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, May 8, 2026 at the age of 84 years. Dedicated husband of Cheryl for almost 26 years. Loving father to his two daughters, Charlene Lunz (Vern), and Leanne Gray (Iles Guran), step-sons Tim Martin (Terri), and Brian Martin (Jamie). Beloved grandfather of Nadia and Nicholas Lunz, and proud Papa of Ethan, Aidan, Nolan, Emmett, and Wyatt Martin. Also survived by his sister Daphne Buckle (Ron), and nephew Darian Fard. Predeceased by his parents Ross and Irene Gray, and sister Sheila.
Ross had a lifelong career in public accounting both as a partner at KPMG (formerly Thorne Riddell) and his own accounting practice. He held many positions on the board of Oktoberfest, the Westmount Golf and Country Club, and Kitchener-Waterloo Kiwanis Club. An avid golfer, he was most at home on the fairway. Ross loved to travel and never turned down an adventure. What those closest to him will remember most is his easy smile, quick wit, sense of humour, and his gift for simply being present. Ross had a way of making every room feel a little warmer, and every gathering a little better just by being there. He was happiest surrounded by the people he loved, and they knew it. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 5-8 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira. A special thank you to the nurses and staff on the 6th floor at WRHN – Queen’s Blvd., and the 2nd floor at Groves Memorial Hospital, for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations to Kiwanis Club of Kitchener-Waterloo, or WRHN-Cancer Care would be appreciated and may be made through the funeral home.
