This is the 2nd year that the Maryhill Knights of Columbus Basketball Free throw was held in St. Boniface school gym. This took place on Thursday, January 30th during the lunch hour. This was for boys and girls 9- 12-year-old’s.
Registration forms were sent home previously for all the young people who wished to participate, the parents signed and the forms were returned. There were 22 students participating.
Each contestant had 3 practice shots followed by 15 consecutive shots. The 9-11-year-old’s shot from 12 feet while the 12-year-old boys and girls were at the 15-foot line. They could not go over their respective line or the winning basket would be disqualified. The girls shot from one side of the gym while the boys used the other side.
Each student received a participation certificate. The winners received a certificate presented by Tim Vegh and a basketball by Steve Kuntz who chaired this event.

First place winners for the girls were: Hannah Meric for the 9 year old girls, Ella-Anne Fluit for 10 year old girls, 11 year old Hailee Kuntz was the winner and Kelsey Treutlein for the 12 year old girls. For the boys Ian Horvath was the winner for the 9 year old boys, Dominik Kunka for the 10 year old boys, Sam Silva for the 11 year old’s and Justin Matesa for the 12 year old.
All the participants were shooting at the Council level. The winners shot 25 baskets for a second time and these scores will then be sent on to the District Level.
It was wonderful to hear the chanting of the players name as they were shooting and also the clapping when someone scored and encouraged their friends.
