Growth was a central topic for Woolwich councillors meeting this week, in the form of population targets for Breslau and moving forward with a new official plan to guide development into the future.
The township is still looking to retain its longstanding slow-growth policies, despite pressure from the province on municipalities to speed the pace of development.
The process is already geared towards growth. In most municipal official plan reviews, the demands of developers typically end up perpetuating sprawl, congestion and the other negatives of growth, whatever concerned citizens might want. Call it the public interest over self-interest. Unfortunately, the latter typically wins.
