Waterloo Region’s public health department has teamed up with Reduce the Juice, an environmental nonprofit organization, to launch its 2009 anti-idling campaign.

The organization hires local young people to lead an educational program in July and August to encourage resident to reduce vehicle-related pollution. During this time last year, more 8,000 homes were visited and 1,557 pledges were completed, which resulted in commitments to actions that would save nearly 1,157 tonnes per year of greenhouse gases and reduce nearly 1,500 kilograms of other pollutants.
