Timing is everything, which may explain who Canadians put their public trust in the most this year.
On Tuesday, the Canadian Centre for Food Integrity released results of its annual nationwide survey that sheds light on how public perceptions are shifting in the food system, and who people consider the most trustworthy.
Why is that important? Well, if you produce, process or sell food, and you’re trying to reach the public, you’d prefer to saddle up to professionals and others who are considered trustworthy, rather than those who are poorly regarded.
This year, the nod goes to the group collectively known as scientists. They’ve leapfrogged over farmers, the perennial favourite, for the first time.
And university researchers, who are also scientists (but for some reason are not included in that group for the survey), have likewise climbed a few notches.
