Another day, another spat over Donald Trump’s erratic trade policies. That’s the new normal for Canada and Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The relationship between Canada and the U.S has been difficult since Trump returned to office last year, intent on grifting and imposing tariffs willy-nilly on everyone, everywhere.
Trump’s tariff obsession has whittled away at free trade and harmed the economy here, in the U.S. and pretty much every other country. His proposed 50-per-cent tariff on five per cent of Canada’s exports to the U.S., which he has threatened to impose as of Wednesday, then extended the deadline, would make things worse.
