With Sandy Shantz opting not to seek re-election, Woolwich will have a new mayor after this fall’s municipal election. Current Ward 2 councillor Eric Schwindt is hoping to fill that role.

Schwindt announced Tuesday he’ll be seeking the job when residents go to the polls October 26.

A lifelong Woolwich resident, Schwindt, 53, has represented Ward 2 since 2022. The owner of Genex Ontario, he farms just north of Elmira, and previously served as chair of Ontario Pork.
