Her life could’ve turned out drastically different.
Elmira poet Maria Giesbrecht, author of the debut collection A Little Feral, spent her childhood in the farm fields of Durango, Mexico. As a member of a Mennonite sect, she found herself dreaming of a life trajectory outside the confines of her religion – an impulse aided by her love for language and the written word.
After moving to Canada as a teenager, she ultimately left that life behind.
