Sister Act, based on the 1992 hit movie starring Whoopi Goldberg, makes its way to the Drayton Festival Theatre this week.
Cheri and Bill Steinkellner’s 2006 stage musical adaptation tells of a diva disco singer, Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder and ends up being hidden in a convent.
The singer, played by Karen Burthwright, is very much a lapsed Catholic. Her arrival turns the convent upside down. Gradually, the nuns and the woman disguised in their midst discover a great deal about their own strength.
