If Hayes Kuepfer were a vegetable, he says he’d be a pepper.
“Probably a pepper because then I don’t die,” said the 11-year-old gardener from St. Clements, explaining that such plants are always producing.
He started growing things in his sandbox, and around five years ago he found his passion for gardening, which took over part of his parents’ backyard, dubbed Hayesville.
