Wellesley will spend some $930,000 on a paving contract this summer, with council last week giving the budget a $125,000 bump.

The asphalt tender was awarded to Brantco Construction, with the largest chunk – $687,000 – earmarked for resurfacing a stretch of Hessen Strasse between Moser-Young Road and Kressler Road.

For that project, the contractor will use a cold-in-place (CIP) process on a township road for the first time. An eco-friendly option, it sees machinery rip up the existing asphalt, crush it, mix it with new binder material and apply it as a new layer of pavement. Along with reducing emissions, the technique also cuts costs.
