Considered one of the top pests for the potato industry across Canada and the Northeastern United States, the Colorado potato beetle is a tough bug to beat.

“Colorado potato beetle is the most important pest worldwide for potatoes,” said Rebecca Hallett, professor and associate dean of the school of Environmental Science at the University of Guelph.

While the Colorado potato beetle mostly ravages potatoes, as the name suggests, it also causes damage to tomatoes, eggplant and peppers, and when left unmanaged, a population can devastate an entire crop.
