Imagine walking down to a community orchard during harvest season to pick fresh fruit directly from the branch, rather than buying it from a grocery store.
This vision drives ReForest Woolwich’s community orchard project. While the organization ultimately aims to plant 200,000 trees over a ten-year period, this specific orchard initiative takes the mission a step further by focusing directly on local food security.
“We want to go beyond reforestation,” said Braedon Witt, operations manager at ReForest Woolwich. “Fruit trees, they feed people. This adds a doorway into the community to talk about the importance of local food and food security.”
