Elmira’s Taylor Rayfield brought home the gold after competing with her U16 Team Ontario squad at women’s field hockey nationals in Calgary August 5-9.

It was “very exciting, it feels unreal…it’s crazy to think that we won,” said the 16-year-old, noting the team was undefeated there.

Rayfield explained there were two Ontario teams competing, and she was placed on the top team, so they were expecting to reach the finals, at least.

It was a low-scoring match, but with 1:36 remaining in the second period, Team Ontario Red scored the only goal against BC Blue, making them the top team in the competition on the strength of a 1-0 victory.
