Like most people who served in the Second World War, Edwin Meyer didn’t really want to talk about his experiences overseas. The gregarious musician preferred to focus on the positive elements of life, like marrying his wife Orpha and raising their four children. But there was evidence all over the family home of his military service, including a proudly framed black-and-white photo of the day that he met King George VI in London.
According to Elmira resident Rudy O’Hara, his daughter, that image captured one of the proudest moments of Meyer’s life.
