Having messed up when calculating this year’s tax bills, Woolwich staff was looking to hit up residents for another $170,000. Councillors decided, however, that the township should own the mistake.

Instead of tacking on an additional fee for $12 to $15 on next year’s tax bills, the money will be drawn from a reserve fund.

Director of finance Colm Lynn told councillors meeting Tuesday night that the mistake in this year’s billing was found only recently. He presented three options to make up the shortfall: drawing on reserves, sending out additional bills this year, or adding the balance to 2027 tax bills.
