The Wellesley Applejacks’ title hunt was buoyed by a gritty shoot-out win over the challenging New Hamburg Firebirds – only to be sunk by the struggling Paris Titans the following game last weekend.
Friday’s nail-biting 3-2 Battle of Nafziger Road classic on the road wasn’t settled until shootout hero Ryan Brenton scored on the eighth attempt, earning his second goal of the match.
With New Hamburg (12-6-4) in third place and settling into a stronger run of form than at the beginning of the season, the result carried more weight than the usual bragging rights.
