Homebuilding in Waterloo Region is expected to slow over the next two years, even as improving affordability gives a modest lift to sales, according to a new outlook from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
In its latest forecast, the federal agency predicts that total housing starts will decline this year from the elevated level reached in 2025, driven primarily by a pullback in condominium apartment construction.
After reaching 4,306 total starts in 2025 – including 3,392 apartments – the agency expects the figure to fall to between 3,300 and 4,000 units in 2026.
