Farmers and agribusinesses within the township could soon have access to new funding to help expand into global markets and reduce reliance on the United States, as federal and provincial governments roll out a new $20-million market diversification initiative.
The governments of Canada and Ontario announced the new Market Diversification and Trade Resiliency Initiative on January 20, which aims to help farmers, food processors and agribusinesses grow domestic and international sales of Ontario-grown products. Applications open February 17 and close March 17.
The program, delivered by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA), is designed to help producers strengthen their operations, develop new products, and reach new customers amid growing trade uncertainty.
