The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) has extended the fee-free period for grain inspection and weighing services until Apr. 1, 2028.
The decision, which delays any new fee increases, is a welcome relief for the industry, pushing back the changes by at least a year longer than originally planned.
The CGC is responsible for regulating the country’s grain-handling system and providing inspection and weighing services that determine grading and payment for delivered grain. Those services are essential to keeping Canada’s grain moving to domestic processors and global export markets, and the costs are typically covered through service fees charged to grain handlers, as well as indirectly to producers.
