The Wellesley Applejacks opened the season with a split last weekend – starting with a loss against the New Hamburg Firebirds and then dominating the Hespeler Shamrocks the following evening.
Saturday’s nail-biting 4-3 Battle of Nafziger Road at home was a classic tit-for-tat affair, what assistant coach Ryan Yantz called an “interesting game.”
Sunday’s 4-1 road win saw the Jacks essentially sew things up by the end of the second period.
The match against New Hamburg started off relatively quickly, with Firebird Tate Davison getting things rolling at 4:41 to put the visitors up 1-0.
