Elmira Sugar Kings defenceman Jon Jutzi has been tapped to play in the Midwestern conference’s top prospects game Jan. 19.

“He’s an outstanding choice,” said coach Geoff Haddaway. “Jon has had an exceptional start to the season. It’s been pretty consistent from game one to where we are now, at game 35.”

The top prospects game is for players born in 1990, ’91, or ’92, and designed to give them exposure to higher level hockey.
Jutzi is currently the 10th highest scoring defenceman in the Midwestern conference, with 22 points.

Last season the 6’2” defenseman had two points in 35 games with the Kings. So far this season, he’s scored five goals and added 17 assists.

“Jon was, from what I understand, just an overwhelming selection to go to that game,” Haddaway said, noting that the top prospects game attracts scouts from the OHL, Canadian and American universities and possibly the NHL as well.
