Despite a string of penalties that allowed the visiting Fort Erie Meteors to score a pair of power-play goals, the Elmira Sugar Kings posted a 5-3 win in their sole game of the weekend.
The Kings got a power-play marker of their own, along with an empty-netter to hold off the visitors Sunday afternoon, as the Meteors outshot them 37-24.
With just one game, even though it was a win, the Kings (16-2-1 for 33 points) found themselves dropping into second place in the GOHL’s Western Conference standings, with the Chatham Maroons (17-2-1-2) moving up, though the Kings have three games in hand.
