Missed pickups and other growing pains as region rolls out new waste system

Elmira was one of the locations slotted for the first day of Waterloo Region’s new automated garbage collection, as service got underway March 3.

Having had to store the new bins for months, some people saw the new collection process in action. Others weren’t so lucky, as the bins remained unemptied through the rest of the week.

The townships of Woolwich, Wellesley, and North Dumfries, as well as parts of Cambridge, were the first communities scheduled to receive pickup.
