The door chimes open as another customer steps inside, stamps his feet and heads straight for the counter.
“Hi, Herb,” says Julia Pettigrew as the man orders his usual mix of scratch, whole corn and wheat, before joyfully explaining how his geese, ducks and chickens make him happy.
It’s the kind of exchange that happens dozens of times a day at the Miller’s Stone store near Heidelberg, explained the senior customer service representative.
