Waterloo Region hasn’t seen a November this snowy in more than 70 years, and the early-season winter weather may have broader implications for the months ahead.
The Eric Soulis Memorial Weather Station at the University of Waterloo reports the region recorded 59 centimetres of snow in November – the most for the month since 1950, and more than five times the long-term average of 11 cm. Back in November 1950, 105.4 cm fell.
This year’s total was driven by two early-season events: a very early first snowfall on November 9, followed by a major November 28 storm that dropped more than 30 cm in a single day, overwhelming road-clearing crews across the region.
