Richard Eugene Reger passed away Tuesday November 11, 2025. Beloved husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend — was born in Elmira, Ontario, on February 23, 1944. Richard was the youngest of fourteen children.
In 1967, Richard met the love of his life, Lynda (Vaughan), and they married in 1968, sharing 57 incredible years together. Richard was the proud father of Chad (and his wife Shannon) and Dean, who both blessed him with his cherished grandchildren: Samantha, Jessica, Kyler, and Kaleb. His grandchildren truly were the “apple of his eye.”
From 1980 to 2014, Richard and Lynda owned and operated a seamless eavestrough business in Elmira. To add to the fun, they also ran Richlyn Fries in Elmira from 2004 to 2014, where everyone who stopped by for a bite to eat became a friend.
Richard was an avid fisherman, spending countless days on the lake and enjoying ice fishing each winter with his buddies. In the summer, you could often find him on the golf course for a friendly game — sometimes winning, sometimes not, but always having fun. In recent years, Richard could be found at the rink or soccer field, cheering on his grandchildren.
Richard was an extraordinary person who never hesitated to stop for a chat or lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his brother Paul (and his wife Josephine) and sister Elaine Greenhous, and by his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Ruth Reger, David (and his wife Burdette), Janet (and her husband Paul Williamson), Mark Vaughan, and Allan (and his wife Tammy). Richard is predeceased by his parents Harvey and Solome Reger, his parents-in-law John and Irene Vaughan, his siblings Marie and her husband Ray Chambers, Cleon, Willis and his wife Delores, Lavere, Nora and her husband Jim Cameron, Milford and his wife Bunny, Harold and his wife Donna, Kenneth, Shirley, Myrla, and Robert and his wife Marion, his brother in law Chris Greenhous, his sister-in-law Susan Patterson, and his daughter-in-law Sarah (Mason) Reger. He was a much-loved uncle who will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Richard’s Life will take place on November 22 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Durham Legion, located at 271 Bruce Street North, Durham, Ontario. Stories of remembrance will be shared at 1:30 PM, followed by a social time to reminisce and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Durham Memorial Hospital Fund.
“The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing.”
