New data from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario show that homelessness in Ontario is rising sharply province-wide, with rural communities feeling the pressure.
The 2026 update on homelessness estimates that more than 85,000 people across Ontario experienced homelessness in 2025, an increase of about eight per cent over the previous year and roughly 50 per cent higher than in 2021.
The data also show homelessness is growing fastest in rural and northern communities, with rural areas seeing increases of more than 30 per cent.
