A pair of recent theft cases in Woolwich have highlighted growing concerns about rural crime, with the police and farm organizations warning that thefts in rural areas appear to be increasing, particularly automotive theft.

On October 11, Waterloo Regional Police arrested a man following a vehicle theft and trespassing incident in Woolwich Township. Police say the man was found with a stolen vehicle that had been taken during a fraudulent test drive from a dealership in Waterloo the day before.

In a separate incident, police charged a woman after she allegedly stole approximately 39lbs of apples from a business on Line 86 in Woolwich. Investigators said she had transferred apples from a paid picking bag into her car before being confronted.
