With deep sorrow and immense love, we announce the peaceful passing of Derek Stroeder, who left this world surrounded by his immediate family on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Scripps Green Hospital in San Diego, California, at the age of 44 years. Derek was the cherished son of Sandy Newton of Waterloo, and Gerry (Laurie) Stroeder of Elmira, beloved brother of Trevor Stroeder, and step-brother of Mikayla (Steve) Keller; adored uncle of Allison and Amellia Stroeder; Harvey and Bennett Keller; and loving grandson of Inez Albrecht. Derek will be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends—both in Canada and in California, where his close friends became a second family to him. Predeceased by his grandparents Arthur Metzger, Leonard and Gertrude Stroeder, and step-grandfather Wes Albrecht. Derek had an adventurous spirit and a deep love for life. He found joy in traveling, connecting and building lasting friendships wherever he went. His vibrant personality, warm heart, and unwavering loyalty will be remembered by all who knew him, and lives on by way of organ donation. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. at the Elmira Legion Branch 469, 11 First St. E., Elmira. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to WRHN Foundation – Cardiac Care or Neuro Health Program Establishment, through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
