Over the past couple of weeks, students at Riverside and John Mahood public schools in Elmira have been in friendly competition for a good cause: cleaning up litter around the community.

In honour of Earth Day on April 22, Riverside Public School turned the last few weeks of April into a spring cleaning, encouraging students to pick up garbage around town. Students and their families have spent time going around the community, filling up bags with litter.

John Mahood PS also took up the challenge, turning the cleanup into a competition with Riverside to see who could clean up the most litter between April 16 and 30.
