With the arrival of the fall harvest season, motorists are reminded to stay alert for increased farm equipment on local roadways. Farmers are currently moving heavy machinery and freshly harvested crops between fields, storage facilities, and regional grain elevators.
The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) always cautions drivers to remain patient and recognize that agricultural vehicles have an equal right to the road. The organization advises motorists to maintain a safe following distance, adhere to speed limits, and strictly stay in their lanes, especially when navigating curves and hills.
Sharing the road requires caution. According to federal statistics, slow-moving vehicles are four to eight times more likely to be involved in a fatal collision per kilometre travelled than standard motor vehicles. Improper passing by motorists remains a leading cause of these accidents.
