Some of Wellesley councillors said they want to trim the township’s planned tax increase of nearly five per cent after residents told them they are “hurting” from rising costs.

“The comments I’ve heard are all ‘get lower – five per cent is too high,’” noted Coun. Lori Sebben as she and other elected members met to discuss next year’s budget for a second time.

Coun. Shelley Wagner also said she would like to “pair down” spending to make taxes more affordable for struggling residents, but said a predicted infrastructure deficit also needed to be dealt with.
