Concerns about the surveillance state notwithstanding, Wellesley is going ahead with plans for all-seeing dash cameras on the township’s fleet vehicles.

Councillors were split on the idea, but voted last week to go ahead with a proposal to install forward- and driver-facing cameras in all vehicles. It was opposed by councillors Lori Sebben and Claude Hergott.

The move was prompted by a requirement of the Waterloo Regional Municipalities Insurance Pool, said chief administrative officer Rik Louwagie.
