An intricate model of the West Montrose Covered Bridge has been found and put on display in the village, while the real crossing undergoes a $12-million restoration.
The 27-year-old miniature version of the historic structure, which is 48 times smaller than the 1881 original, now sits on a shelf at the Lost Acre Variety store.
Lovingly built by the late George Jupp in 1998, the former quality control inspector spent more than 1,000 hours creating the 52-inch-long model of what is affectionately known as the Kissing Bridge, reputedly because the cover provided secrecy for passing lovers to embrace.
