Having rebuffed a review with an eye to increasing staff salaries, Woolwich councillors this week ultimately decided against proposed large increases to the paycheques of elected officials.

A report from election coordinator Lee Ann Wetzel comparing current council remunerations recommended a 23.4 per cent increase for the mayor (to $47,808 from $38,732) and a 15.6 per cent hike for councillors (to $26,255 from $22,721), effective after this year’s municipal election.
