Friends of the Grand River have a busy season ahead, with outdoor activities planned along the Conestoga and Upper Grand Rivers in the upcoming weeks. This Saturday marks the start of the activities with a garbage cleanup on the Upper Grand River. The local non-profit has been doing garbage cleanups along the river for the past 15 years.
Anyone interested in participating can meet the volunteers at 9 a.m. at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex in Fergus. Considering the April showers anticipated throughout the week, Keith Halbert, co-chair and treasurer of the board of Friends of the Grand River, recommends people come prepared, with rubber boots and gloves. Volunteers will be provided with a high-visibility orange vest for the event.
