How do we balance the demand for development and urbanization while ensuring there is enough water to go around? Jack Imhof tackles the issues in his upcoming talk, ‘The challenges with urbanization and protection of water and aquatic environments.’

His talk at Waterloo Region Nature’s monthly meeting will be held April 27 (7 p.m.) at the Knox Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. Those interested but unable to attend in person can sign up to attend via Zoom.

A retired aquatic ecologist and watershed scientist, Imhof will draw on his 50 years of experience to discuss the impacts of urbanization on water systems, exploring how the water budget changes as cities grow. He will also touch on how stormwater management and development planning processes risk contributing to degrading the water system. All relevant topics, considering the Waterloo Region’s water crisis, at the forefront of many minds.
