Splitting goaltending duties, Finn Pettapiece and Reed Straus combined to turn aside 35 shots as the Elmira Sugar Kings beat the Waterloo Siskins 3-2 in overtime in the last game of the preseason schedule September 3.
It was a tit-for-tat affair through regulation, with the home side finishing ahead when the dust all settled.
Elmira’s Tanner Lawson scored the lone goal of the opening period, a power-play effort at 10:55 assisted by Brendan Gerber and Alex Rossi.
That 1-0 lead lasted exactly 22 seconds after play resumed in the middle frame, with Sutton Meier getting the equalizer. The period would end with the teams deadlocked at 1-1.
