The National Farmers Union (NFU) is calling on the federal government to denounce what it describes as a violent military raid on its sister organization in Palestine, saying agricultural civil-society groups are increasingly being targeted amid the ongoing conflict.
In a letter sent December 2 to Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand, the NFU said Israeli forces carried out coordinated raids one day earlier on the offices of a La Via Campesina (a global coalition representing more than 200 million peasants, small- and medium-scale farmers, agricultural workers, and Indigenous food producers) member organization in Ramallah and Hebron.
The NFU represents thousands of farm families across Canada and is known for its long-standing advocacy on food sovereignty, land protection and farmers’ rights.
